More Trip Details
ARAMCO
Walid Shaari and Ibrahim Fuwaires of the High Performance Computing Team in EXPEC have invited me to come to ARAMCO and give a short presentation similar to the Python Course given as part of WEP 2012. I am anticipating a personal visit to Bahrain that weekend and could take advantage of spatial locality to teach the course at Dhahran either the preceding Tuesday/Wednesday or the following Saturday/Sunday.
SpringSim
I am serving on the Program Committee for the High Performance Computing Symposia, which is part of the SCS Spring Simulation Multiconference in cooperation with ACM/SIGSIM. Non-member registration fees are $750, and include tutorials on ViennaCL and MPI+X.
Argonne National Laboratories
I have been invited by several members of ALCF and MCS to visit the Argonne campus for several days. My research objectives of this visit would be multifold:
Implementing and testing collective file system metadata at the petascale on both BlueGene/P and BlueGene/Q hardware
Porting the PyClaw project (Scalable, Extensible Hyperbolic Solvers) to Argonne supercomputing resources
Performance Profiling and Tuning of Next Generation Earthquake Models (SORD/SeisSol with Mai, Malas, and Ely)
Pipeline Streaming - In collaboration with Panos Kalnis (and possibly Gerard Schuster or Tariq al-Khallifah), I would like to develop a simple application-motivated benchmark for measuring supercomputer memory+network performance.
Simula
I have been invited by Prof. Hans Petter Langtangen of Simula Research Laboratories to visit their computational modeling group. Prof. Langtangen’s group is heavily invested in developing paradigm-shattering software, but they are still limited by the scalability of their codes on supercomputers. I will be working with his team to identify areas of collaboration for the Extreme Computing Laboratory and the Simula Research Laboratory along this research front.
ISPDC
I am serving on the program committee for the 11th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Computing. We are also actively collaborating with several TUM students and faculty, and I would like to take advantage of my physical presence in Munich to foster our shared research activities with this group.
SciPy/UT-Austin
I am serving on the program committee for SciPy. The Scientific Python Conference is held annually in Austin, Texas, and brings together researchers developing with the first new language to see successful use on supercomputers in the last decade. This is a turbulent year for the Scientific Python Community as a new foundation, NUMFOCUS, has emerged, with a commitment to fostering open development of high-level scientific software tools. I think it is important for me to attend this conference to maintain my expertise in this application area.
Supercomputing 2012
Supercomputing 2012 is the most important global conference in large-scale computing. I intend to attend as part of the KAUST delegation to this event, I missed several important meetings and events last year due to sickness.
