Tareq/Spring 2012 research plan

Plans

My plan for this semester is divided in two major parts:

  1. Improve my knowledge in math fundamentals. Taking both AMCS 251 and AMCS 252 and trying to excel in them
  2. Prepare my PhD research proposal. Reading papers to find a good research topic that is also very interesting to me

I plan to have 60 work hours per week divided as follows:

  • 15 hours for AMCS 251 class work
  • 15 hours for AMCS 252 class work
  • 15 hours for research proposal preparations
  • 15 hours for other PhD workload: Meetings, seminars, volunteering in “Scalable Hierarchical Algorithms for Extreme Computing” workshop at KAUST, potential IJHPCA review iterations, and completing my summer intership logistics with preparations on my research topic there.

Target outcome

  • Deep understanding of AMCS 251 and AMCS 252 material
  • A research proposal of a project of my interest
  • Complete all the logistics for my summer internship at ANL
  • Have enough preparations for the internship topic, such that I have sufficient momentum before the internship

Weekly schedule:

The schedule for the classes is clear. I have to study the required material weekly and do the assignments on time and properly.

Preparations for the research proposal are not clear to me. This will evolve as I start reading papers and explore related topics of interest. For now I have to give it the 15 hours/week
